California Gov Gavin Newsom signed a controversial bill into law. The law, the Support
Academic Futures and Educators for Today’s Youth (SAFETY) Act, overturns the policies implemented by school districts throughout the state which make it mandatory for schools to notify parents when their children start going by a different name and different pronouns. The law also implements protections for teachers who deliberately shield such “transitions” from parents, forbidding them from being fired or facing other forms of discipline.
